A memorial service for Samuel J. Spielberg, 31, is to be held at Ashawagh Hall in Springs, where he lived, on Wednesday, February 27, from 3 to 6 p.m. Mr. Spielberg died in a car crash on Red Dirt Road in Amagansett on Friday night.

Mr. Spielberg was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, on February 7, 1982, but he grew up in East Hampton, where his family moved that year. He loved East Hampton and worked alongside his father, Jason Spielberg, in the family business, Spielberg Nursery, his sister, Summer Wolff, said this week.

Besides his sister and father, Mr. Spielberg leaves a 6-year-old daughter, Bianca Mar Spielberg, his wife, Karriann Spielberg, and his mother, Sherry Spielberg. “Sam also left behind a large and loving extended family and hundreds of friends whose lives he has touched,” his sister said.

Instead of flowers, Mr. Spielberg’s family asked that donations be sent for a scholarship fund for his daughter. Checks can be mailed to Jason Spielberg with “For Bianca” on the memo line to: Bianca Spielberg, 16 Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road, East Hampton, NY 11937.

East Hampton Town Police said that Mr. Spielberg’s 2002 Toyota 4Runner left the road west of Old Stone Highway after failing to negotiate a curve. After striking several trees, it overturned and caught fire. The driver, who was alone, was found in the vehicle by Amagansett Fire Department personnel and East Hampton Town Police. As of Monday, Town Police and the Suffolk County medical Examiner’s Officer were continuing their investigation.

How sad and pathetic that you would use this time to make a sorry excuse for a joke.

The photo of father and daughter is touching. The other two do not seem newsworthy at this time IMO.
