A man of faith, he served in a variety of positions, including chair of the Deacon Board, president of the Usher Board and co-chair of a number of auxiliaries, at Calvary Baptist Church. He was a landscaper, and also an East Hampton Town crossing guard for 16 years.

Mr. Lane is predeceased by his wife, Lois Lane; siblings, Maggie Camon, Drewnell Keeley and Johnnie Lane; and two children, Chester Lamar Lane Jr. and Juanita Ellis. He is survived by an aunt, Ruthie Mae Lane; a brother, Charles Lane and wife Camina; brothers-in-law Edward Wyche and wife Bobbie, James Wyche and wife Madeline, and Leonard Wyche and wife Marion; sisters-in-law, Alice Coffey and husband Joe, and Karen King and husband Alvin; and his children, Bernadette Walker of Georgia, Jerome Nixon of Georgia, Kenneth Warner of Georgia, Isaac Roberson of Pennsylvania, Curtis Ellis of Bellport and Torrence Lane of Georgia.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Darnesha Sha’Nelle Thompson, James E. Walker Jr., Angela M. Ellis, Crystal Y. Lloyd, Lamar Ellis, Latisha Ellis, Passion Ellis, Jason Childs and Terrell Hopson; and 24 great-grandchildren; and a number of relatives and friends.

A funeral took place on February 27 at Calvary Baptist Church in East Hampton followed by burial at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton.
