Youth Flag Football Program In The Works In East Hampton

Jun 6, 2016 4:50 PM

Starting in September, Joe McKee and the rest of the East Hampton High School varsity football coaching staff will facilitate a youth flag football league for East Hampton and Bridgehampton children, boys and girls, in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The 7-on-7, non-contact league will divide children into three age groups, and hold practices for an hour on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting at 5:30 p.m., at Herrick Park in East Hampton, with games under the lights at Herrick Park on Friday nights.

McKee said the program would be “highly instructional” and focus on teaching the fundamentals and techniques of the game. He said the practices could include instruction on tackling technique, but that there would be no live tackling in games or practices. The league will run in September and October, and registration forms will be available at both East Hampton and Bridgehampton schools.

The Bonac football program is also hosting a fundraiser for the team on Wednesday, June 8, at Harbor Bistro. Admission is free, and there will be discounted beer and wine and free appetizers. There will be a silent auction with gift certificates and other prizes.

For more information on the fundraiser or the flag football program, contact Joe McKee at 631-834-7545.
