Firefighters extinguished at mulch fire at the East Hampton Town landfill on Thursday, June 30.

The East Hampton Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Accabonac Road and Addie Conklin Lane at 5:15 a.m. in response to a report of smoke in the area. Officers arrived and determined that the smoke was coming from the East Hampton Town Recycling Center. According to fire officials, the fire was in a large, 50-foot-high mulch pile.

It took firefighters about two hours to control the fire using a pumper and tower ladder to soak down the pile of mulch. They were assisted by a local contractor’s bulldozer. No injuries were reported.
