Jan 22, 2014 12:30 PM

UPDATE, 11:37 a.m.:

Town Police identified the man as 84-year-old Ralph E. Batalla, who lived at 1 Locust Drive.

In a press release, Lieutenant Robert Gurney said that Mr. Batalla may have experienced a “medical event” in his yard, just outside his front door, on Tuesday evening.

He said the death does not appear suspicious and no foul play is suspected.

An elderly man was found dead outside his home on Locust Drive in Springs early Wednesday morning, according to East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo.

He said a call came over at 7:35 a.m. that a snow plow driver had discovered a man unconscious and not breathing in the snow near his home.

The Springs Fire Department Ambulance and Town police responded to the scene, where the man was pronounced dead.

The Chief said that the man’s cause of death is unknown but they are working with the Suffolk County Medical Examiner and still investigating the death.

To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake. ...more
