One driver was still in the intensive care unit at Stony Brook University Hospital on Tuesday following a two-vehicle crash in East Hampton last Thursday morning, December 7, in which both drivers were injured.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Joseph Lambiase, 59, of East Hampton was stopped in his 1996 Ford pickup truck on Route 114 near Deer Haven Court as he waited for traffic to pass to make a left turn into his driveway.

Mr. Lambiase later told police that he saw a 2013 Ford van driven by Michael Oblein, 34, also of East Hampton, come up from behind without slowing down. Although Mr. Lambiase tried to move out of the way, he could not avoid being hit from behind by Mr. Oblein’s van, he told police.

East Hampton Town Police were called to the scene at 7:19 a.m., and members of the East Hampton Fire Department also responded.

Mr. Oblein was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by helicopter and was still hospitalized as of Tuesday. Mr. Lambiase was transported to Southampton Hospital by ambulance and was no longer listed as a patient at Southampton Hospital on Tuesday.
