Once again, the East Hampton boys tennis team should be
one of the top squads in League VII.

The program has a new coach this year in Kevin McConville, a tennis pro who works at Hampton Racquet in East Hampton and was formerly the tennis director at Buckskill Tennis Club. It’s a reunion of sorts for McConville and the large junior class on this year’s varsity squad, as McConville was their middle school coach several years ago.

The Bonackers will have three talented players in the first three singles spots in junior Ravi MacGurn, Bridgehampton junior Johnny DeGroot, and Pierson eighth-grader Luke Louchheim.

Other strong returning players include juniors Jaedan Glasstein, Alex Wesseley, Bradley Drubych, and Bridgehampton’s Jamie Fairchild. Hunter Medler is the only senior on the team.

The Bonackers were league champs for the third year in a row last season, winning the title outright in 2016 and 2015 and sharing it with Westhampton Beach last year after they both went 9-1 in league play.

East Hampton will play in League VII with Shoreham/ Wading River, Ross, Westhampton Beach, Southold and Rocky Point. Westhampton Beach should once again have a strong program and be a good challenge for the Bonackers. They are set to start the season at home on March 16 with a non-league match against Half Hollow Hills East at 4 p.m.
