Another successful county meet is in the books for the East Hampton girls swim team, which will send two relay teams and have two other swimmers compete in individual events at the New York State Meet, set for November 16 and 17 at Ithaca College.

The Lady Bonackers finished sixth out of 25 teams at the Section XI (Suffolk County) State Qualifier Meet at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on Saturday, and were fourth overall with diving points taken out of the equation. (East Hampton does not have a diving contingent). The 200-yard medley relay team of Julia Brierley, Jane Brierley, Sophia Swanson and Oona Foulser started the meet on the right foot, finishing third in the first event of the day in 1:49.53, improving on what had already been a state-qualifying time they set at the League III meet a week earlier by 2.5 seconds. Later in the day, East Hampton’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Foulser, Jane Brierley, Julia Brierley and Sophia Swanson finished second in 1:40.12, missing out on the county title in that race by just one second.

Swanson and Jane Brierley will also compete in individual events at states, with Swanson taking fourth in the 100 butterfly in 59.35 seconds, improving slightly on her previous best time, which was already under the state qualifying time. Brierley, an eighth-grader, was fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.79.

Several other Lady Bonackers had strong efforts that helped lead to the sixth-place finish. Kiara Bailey-Williams was 10th in the 200 yard IM (2:21.15); Foulser was sixth in the 50 free (25.41 seconds); Jane Brierley was 10th in the 50 free (25.77 seconds); Swanson was fourth in the 100 free (55.30 seconds); Julia Brierley was eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.37); and the 400 free relay team of Emma Wiltshire, Caroline Brown, Bailey-Williams and Camryn Hatch was ninth in 3:55.92.

Ward Melville won the meet with 315.5 points, followed by Northport (247), Sayville/Bayport/Blue Point (212), Connetquot (209.5), Half Hollow Hills (190), and East Hampton (187.5). Smithtown was seventh with 176 points.

The Lady Bonackers chose junior Julia Brierley as their Swimmer of the Meet. Brierley was part of both state qualifying relay teams, and competed in back to back to back events at the meet, with personal-best times in all her events. She was one of nine Bonac swimmers who had personal best times in one or more events at the county meet, including Jane Brierley, Swanson, Foulser, Bailey-Williams, Hatch, Darcy McFarland, Brown and Wiltshire. All three relay teams had their best times of the season as well.
