The East Hampton boys track team earned its first dual meet victory in three years on April 30, an 87-54 win at Elwood/John Glenn. It is also the first win for head coach Christopher Reich.

Reich said it was a full team effort as the majority of the athletes scored points for the Bonackers. Adam Cebulski scored nine points for East Hampton by winning the mile race with a time of 4:52 and placing second in the two-mile race. Erik Engstrom won the two-mile in a personal-best 10:36. Hunter Kelsey and Wanya Reid scored a combined 21 points in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and 4x100-meter relay.

Pablo Carreno and T.J. Paradiso placed first and third, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Jack Ryan and Liam Kessler both recorded personal bests in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet—a surprise to Reich. Will Ellis placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles, in 17.6 seconds, another personal best that pleasantly surprised Reich.

Reich said he gave Athlete of the Meet awards to Ellis and Ryan, who not only did well in the pole vault but were part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team. Reich said he actually lied to the 4x4 team—which was made up of Ryan, Paradiso, John Grogan and Evan Larsen—that it had to win for the team to win the overall meet; in fact, the 4x800-meter relay team had sealed the victory already. The lie pushed the 4x4 team to a big win.

Andre Cherrington placed second in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet 8 inches, while Josh King placed third with a throw of 32 feet. King also placed third in the discus with a throw of 91 feet.

The East Hampton girls track team lost, 102-47, at home to Glenn on April 30. Alyssa Bahel won the 3,000-meter race, in a personal-best 12:00. Morgan German placed second, in a personal-best 12:30.3. Taliya Hayes won the discus with a personal-best throw of 78 feet 9 inches. Vicky Nardo placed third with a throw of 66 feet 5 inches. Hayes also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 28 feet 2 inches. The 4x800-meter relay team of Bahel, Cebulski, Devon Brown and Lilah Minetree won, posting a personal-best time of 10:44.4.

Dana Cebulski placed second in the 1,500-meter race but still bested her own school record by finishing in 5:00; her previous record was 5:11.8. She also placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet 10¾ inches, a personal best. Cebulski also finished second in the 800-meter race, in 2:29.

Cecilia Blowe placed second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She finished the 100 in 13.4 seconds and the 200 in 28.2 seconds, both personal records. Blowe took third place in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet 3¾ inches.

Amanda Calabrese placed second and set a new school record in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 17.3 seconds. The previous record of 17.4 seconds was set by Maria Dayton in 1998. Calabrese also placed second and recorded a personal best in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 78 seconds. Calabrese placed third in the pole vault by clearing 7 feet. Nina Piacentine placed second in the 1,500-meter race walk, in 8:27.35, a personal best. Shannon Ryan placed third, in 9:15.72.
St. Anthony’s Invitational
East Hampton girls track head coach Yani Cuesta took a handful of boys and girls to St. Anthony’s on Saturday. Adam Cebulski finished 47th overall out of 77 runners in the 1,600-meter race, in 4:44.14. Engstrom finished 17th out of 34 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, in 10:28.30. Jack Link placed 41st out of 52 in the 200-meter dash, in 24.74 seconds. Dana Cebulski finished ninth out of 36 runners in the 800-meter run, in 2:21.34, and finished 12th out of 47 in the 1,500-meter race, in 4:56.55. Calabrese finished 61st out of 67 in the 100-meter high hurdles, in 20.32 seconds.
