The News You Need To Know

authorStaff Writer on Aug 10, 2019

Michael Tesoriero has a thing for newspapers. Since the 1960s, the Farmingville resident has been collecting papers and has now amassed a museum of sorts with thousands of issues detailing major stories like the National Guard shootings at Kent State University in May 1970, the assassination of John Lennon in 1980, and a plethora of stories detailing the space race with the Soviets.

Now, Mr. Tesoriero, curator, president and founder of the Newspaper Museum, is coming to East Hampton Library with a selection of newspapers highlighting major events throughout the world. He will give a presentation on his museum on Saturday, August 24, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

His Newspaper Museum has over 7,000 newspapers in its archives. Mr. Tesoriero recently sent 10 newspapers to the U.S.S. Intrepid to help with its commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in July, and personnel at the East Hampton Library note that Mr. Tesoriero has provided them with a wide range of East Hampton Star newspaper volumes to fill gaps in their collection. These papers are in the process of being digitized and 1885-1979 are currently available for view on Digital Long Island on the library's website.

The East Hampton Library is at 159 Main Street, East Hampton. To reserve a seat at Michael Tesoriero’s talk, call 631-324-0222 extension 3 or visit easthamptonlibrary.org.
