John A. McKinney, 25, of New York was charged with misdemeanor DWI on Tuesday, August 27, at 8:01 p.m. after his car collided with another vehicle under the train trestle on Stephen Hands Path in East Hampton.

Jorge Ruben Calle-Mendez of East Hampton, the driver of the other car, a 2011 Hyundai, was medevaced to Stony Brook University Hospital, while Mr. McKinney was charged at the scene with misdemeanor DWI, according to East Hampton Town Police Captain Christopher Anderson.

Mr. McKinney was driving his 2019 Jeep south on Stephen Hands Path, Capt. Anderson said, when it struck the trestle prior to colliding with Mr. Calle-Mendez’s car, which was headed north. Both cars sustained major damage.

Members of the East Hampton Fire Department responded with their “White Knights” heavy rescue company. Mr. Calle-Mendez was issued a ticket for unlicensed driving, Capt. Anderson said.
