Ann J. Johnson Of Southampton Dies April 2

Ann Jahelka Johnson died on April 2 at her home in Southampton. She was 82.

Born on November 27, 1932, in Hampton Bays, she was the daughter of Elecia White and Victor Jahelka Jr. She attended Hampton Bays schools and spent much of her time at the beach. After she graduated high school, she attended Hunter College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954. She then went on to work as the secretary to the vice president of IBM in New York.

In 1956, she married architect Stanley Johnson; their daughter, Morgen, was born in 1960. Shortly after, she began to work for New York City schools with the majority of her teaching career spent at P.S. 53 in Staten Island, from 1966 until her retirement about 25 years later. During this time, she also earned a master’s degree from Long Island University. On weekends and during the summer, she enjoyed traveling and spending time at her home in Southampton. It was at this same home that Ms. Johnson later enjoyed her years of retirement, which she largely spent in the company of family and friends.

Ms. Johnson was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Johnson. She is survived by a daughter, Morgen Hand; and granddaughters, Kelsi Goss and Melissa Hand. Other surviving relatives include her aunt, Virginia Quaid; brothers, Joseph Jahelka and Victor Jahelka III; stepbrother, Frank Pierre Jr., and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. Burial will be at the family plot on Monday, April 13.
