Eugene T. Raffel of Southampton died on April 1, surrounded by his family, at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He was 76.
Known to many as “Gene,” he was born and raised in Southampton by his parents Joseph and Jennie Raffel, both of whom predeceased him. He graduated from Southampton High School, where he was a member of the football and golf teams. He married Camille on April 24, 1957, and they lived in Southampton where they raised five children. A talented cabinet maker, he owned and operated E.T. Raffel Cabinets in Southampton for more than 35 years, developing a clientele that appreciated his fine craftsmanship and reliability. He was an active member of the North Sea Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years and an ex-captain of the Fire Police. He enjoyed his time as a member of the Southampton Golf Club and the Barefoot Bay Golf Club in Florida.
Mr. Raffel is survived by his wife, Camille; five children, Terri Raffel, Debbie Acquino and husband Chris, Jeanette Grecco and husband Frank, Gene Raffel and wife Laverne, and Richard Raffel and wife Stephanie; and 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph Raffel II; and three sisters, Bertha Stachecki, Dorothy Stachecki and Patricia Sherry. He was predeceased by a brother, Theodore Raffel; and a sister, Pamela Carabine.
A memorial with honor guard from the North Sea Volunteer Fire Department and a Firematic service, was held at O’Connell Funeral Home, followed by burial at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton, on April 7.
