Brookyln Man Dies While Clamming In Far Pond

Aug 24, 2015 3:41 PM

A 62-year-old man drowned last week while clamming in Far Pond in Southampton, adjacent to the Shinnecock Indian Reservation.

According to Southampton Town Police, on Wednesday, August 19, at about 3:30 p.m., the man’s wife saw him struggling and went to get help from a resident who lived on Far Pond Lane. By the time the man, identified as Peter Corticchia of Brooklyn, was recovered from the water, he had already died.

Lieutenant Susan Ralph said that Mr. Corticchia did not know how to swim. She added, “Somehow, he got into trouble.”

Police would not release the name of the onlooker who attempted to save Mr. Corticchia, or the name of his wife.

The Southampton Town Police and the Southampton Town Bay Constables responded to the call, which came in shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Editor-you should really consider removing these images or cropping them. Consider what the family is going through.

Well I question the fire depts about response times so why not the marine police- What was the elapsed time between the time the call came in until a bay constable BOAT was on scene? (I see the truck in the picture)

PoliticallyIncorrect~I think you should join your local FD and become a volunteer firefighter. Let's see how fast YOU can respond to emergencies! As for the BC's, there were only two on duty to cover the entire town of southampton and you can't get a boat in Far Pond, it's too shallow.

You know nothing about the circumstances...nothing about the requests for or response time of emergency personnel so please don't try to raise eyebrows about a nonissue

Thats why I was asking-you two seem to know everything so how about sharing? And you can get a boat into far Pond jaws

BC is not always out in the boats, must respond to boat and get to scene. FD must be requested by town pd.
