Longtime Southampton resident Florence Virginia “Jean” Meinhardt died on September 13 at her home. She was 88.
Ms. Meinhardt was born and raised on Long Island. She was a homemaker for 63 years and in recent years, her joys had been to see her 10 grandchildren grow to adulthood as well as the birth of two great-grandchildren, survivors said. An avid knitter, she made items for the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center and was part of a local knitting group that met weekly at Hildreth’s Department Store.
Ms. Meinhardt is survived by four daughters, Vicki Tucker and husband John of Texas, Suzanne Moore and husband PJ of Southampton, Nancy Boukhaled of Staten Island, and Arleen Alomia of Southampton; by grandchildren, Eugene Tucker of Texas, William Tucker and wife Tiffany of Texas, Jon-Erik Tucker and wife Cassandra of Texas, James Moore of Southampton, Amanda Moore of New York City, Ryan Moore of Southampton, and William Boukhaled and Alex Boukhaled of Staten Island, Xavier Alomia and Geovani Alomia of Southampton; and two great-grandchildren, Abilene Raines and Annette Tucker of Texas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Victor Meinhardt, in 2008.
Visitation was Wednesday, September 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral service will be held at O’Connell Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17, at 10 a.m.; the Reverend Stephen McWhorter will officiate. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
