Matt Lauer Horse Farm Approval Expected In Water Mill

Nonetheless, Mr. Finnerty said that Planning Board members are conscious of the incongruousness of a horse farm and what most people probably thought of as agriculture when the Community Preservation Fund’s program was instituted, largely with the mission of preserving farmland.

“It’s not what a lot of people envision as agriculture, but it is an agricultural use, as the New York State Court of Appeals has told us,” Mr. Finnerty said. “Every time I look at one of these applications, I squirm a little bit. I understand they’re allowed to do this, but it was clearly never part of the public’s intention of what an [agricultural] reserve should be. But if it is agricultural use, our abilities are very limited. I just have to put my blinders on and do my job.”

Why / how does a developer get to build on PRESERVED OPEN SPACE...does this mean that the project is now a community horse stables...for the areas children and adults to ride/learn about horses???...sign me up!!
