A Central Islip woman was arrested over the weekend after Southampton Town Police said she was found in a stolen SUV stopped partially on Montauk Highway near the Eastport-Speonk border with her toddler in the front seat.
A passing motorist reported a possible disabled SUV parked in the roadway on Montauk Highway near Clay Pit Road at 10:28 p.m. on Friday. Police said they responded and found a black 2008 Acura MDX stopped partially in the eastbound lane.
Maria Quintero, 25, was in the driver’s seat of the Acura and her 2-year-old son was in the front passenger’s seat, officers said. The Acura had been reported stolen to the Suffolk Couny Police Third Precinct, which covers the Brentwood and Bay Shore areas, the same day, they said.
Ms. Quintero was arrested by Town Police at 12:04 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection, brought to police headquarters and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
She was released after posting $250 bail and is scheduled for an arraignment on Wednesday, August 29, in Southampton Town Justice Court.
The owner of the Acura was a West Islip resident, police said. Suffolk County Police this week said they had no information on Ms. Quintero.
