UPDATE: Motorcyclist Struck Jeep On Route 114 In North Haven Wednesday Night

Sep 6, 2012 10:20 AM

UPDATE: Thursday, 6:45 a.m.

In a statement released overnight, Southampton Town Police said emergency workers were called to the scene at 7:05 p.m. following a call from a passing motorist who reported that the motorcyclist was lying in the road and was unresponsive.

The investigation revealed, according to the release, that a male was operating a 2000 Honda motorcycle northbound on State Route 114 when the motorcycle struck a 2003 Jeep Liberty that was also travelling northbound on the roadway.

The operator of the Jeep, whom police did not identify, was uninjured. There were no passengers in the Jeep.

Police are not identifying the motorcyclist until his family can be notified. Police declined to describe the nature of his injuries due to health laws.

Both the motorcycle and the Jeep were impounded by police for safety checks. An investigation of the accident is continuing and police ask anyone with information to call detectives at 702-2230.

UPDATE: 10:19 p.m.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after sliding into the back of the car, Southampton Town Police Sergeant Howard Kalb said.

Sgt. Kalb said he did not know the nature of the motorcyclist’s injuries or what caused the crash, but said the motorcyclist somehow lost control.

Details on the car were not immediately available.

A portion of Ferry Road was closed following the crash, but has since reopened.

A car and a motorcycle crashed near the intersection of Ferry Road and Fresh Pond Road in North Haven on Wednesday night just after 7 p.m., according to the Sag Harbor Fire Department.

Details were not immediately available, but a Southampton Town Police dispatcher said a call of a crash on Ferry Road near Fresh Pond Road came in at 7:05 p.m.

My comment was a quote from another local news outlet who actually bothered to update this story. It was properly attributed so not sure what the issue is...

If you're interested in the update it's pretty easy to find. Hint: A pirate wears one on his eye.

For an unknown reason - the Press detests any and all references to other news outlets. Guess they don't like being shown up? I'm not sure but it's an weird policy.

Lately , it's not hard to show up the press .... last week it was reported someone got hit by a car in Springs ... and that was it ... very poor follow up to a lot of stories .

Anders, I am sorry to say I have to agree. I've lived in Southampton Town for almost 30 years and have always read the SH Press; first in print and later online. It certainly seems that lately they put up these big headlines and 24 hours later forget the story was ever printed. As a reader I am baffled as to how the editorial staff can just "forget" about a story. In contrast some of the extremely small web news sources with 1 or 2 people on staff have more new daily content and much quicker updates ...more
