A Riverside man was lying on his bed watching television one afternoon late last month in his Riverleigh Avenue home when he heard glass break, Southampton Town Police said this week. The intruder entered his room, pushed him back down onto the bed, and stole his wallet, which contained a debit card and $70 cash, according to police.
He then fled southbound on Riverleigh Avenue, also known as County Road 104, though police did not say whether he fled by foot or car.
A Suffolk County Sheriff’s office K-9 unit and Suffolk County Police aviation unit responded to assist in the search for the suspect, and Town Police detectives responded to investigate further.
The suspect was described as white, in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, and wearing jeans, a blue and white jacket and sneakers at the time.
The break-in occurred at about 3:40 p.m. on December 27. Police could not say why a police report was not released until this week and said there was no reason for delaying the release.
