The Southampton girls basketball team lost, 62-41, to defending state champion Irvington in the Class B Regional final at Hofstra University on Friday, one night after beating Cold Spring Harbor in the Long Island title game.

Irvington moves on to the New York State final four.

The Lady Mariners fell behind, 29-14, at halftime, but cut the lead to 10 points midway through the third quarter. But then the Lady Bulldogs responded by going on a 9-1 run to close out the third.

The loss marked the end of an era for the Southampton team, which graduates seven seniors, including four starters. The seniors led the team to back-to-back Suffolk County and Long Island Class B championships.

Irvington also ended Southampton’s season in the same game last year.
