Ambers Lee Tucker of Calverton died at his home on March 25, surrounded by his family. He was 87.
Born on March 11, 1929, in Dinwiddie, Virginia, to the late Levi and Mazie (Morton) Tucker, he was known as “Amos.” He and his family moved to Southampton with his family and attended First Baptist Church in Bridgehampton and later the Church of the Harvest in Riverhead.
He married Juanita Brackett on September 9, 1947, and the couple had six children.
Survivors said he was not someone who could sit idle. He simultaneously worked for and retired from two full-time jobs: Southampton Union Free School District and Southampton Lumber, while also working as a self-employed mason.
He was a hard worker, but his devotion to his family and loyalty to his friends were undeniable, they said.
Mr. Tucker was predeceased by a sister, Mary Bertha Johnson; brother-in-law Alexander Johnson; and grandson John Harvey. He is survived by his wife, Juanita “Butch” Tucker; five daughters, Gwen Mack and husband Greg, Maisie Johnson, Andria Atkins and husband Vincent, Shelly Harris and husband Kenny, Linda Tucker and husband Bo; a son, Norman Tucker; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Davis and Lorna Stokley; two brothers-in-law, Roy Stokley and Benny Brunskill; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends.
The family received friends on April 2 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton; Pastor Mike Troiano officiated. Interment was at Southampton Cemetery.
