Stephen H. Shapoff died at his home in Southampton on September 14. He was 71. Mr. Shapoff had a long and successful career as a financial executive with such well-known companies as Estee Lauder and Time Warner. Upon retiring in 2002 he became a full-time resident of Southampton. After serving as chief financial officer of the Ross School, he embarked on an energetic volunteer career, serving as a director of the Child Development Center of the Hamptons and Southampton Hospital. In addition to serving on numerous director’s committees at Southampton Hospital, he was elected and served as the first chairman of the East End Health Alliance, which served as a unifying body to coordinate the operations of the three East End hospitals.
Southampton Hospital’s CEO Bob Chaloner said “Steve was an energetic and highly engaged member of the Southampton Hospital Board, who had a rare ability to combine a fierce sense of humor with a passion for improving health care in our local community.”
Mr. Shapoff is survived by his wife, Andrea; and members of his extended family.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
