Andre Maurice Franklin Sr. of the Shinnecock Indian Reservation died October 13 at Southampton Hospital. He was 49.
Born April 6, 1967, at Southampton Hospital, Mr. Franklin attended Southampton Schools, where he was an all around athlete during high school. After leaving high school, he met and married Tonya Swann, and they had three children, Alona Franklin, Jasmine Seymore, and Andre Maurice Franklin Jr.
Survivors said Mr. Franklin was a partier, an outgoing person and a ladies man, known to many as the “Doc” and “Dre Lover.” He would always tell his sisters and cousins, to tell their friends to call 1-800-Dre-Love.
On September 4, 2010, he suffered a massive stroke, which left him paralyzed on his left side.
In addition to his three children, he is survived by his former wife, Tonya Frankline of Riverhead; three grandchildren, Carmelo, Adrien and Anthony Haga; his parents, Buzzy and Sherry Franklin of Shinnecock; sisters, Stephanie Franklin and Allison Palmore, both of Shinnecock; three brothers, Chester Franklin and Edgar Franklin III, both of Shinnecock, and Jeffrey Ward of Southampton; two sisters-in-law, Laura Franklin of Shinnecock and Faith Bullock of Virginia; a brother-in-law, Anthony Palmore Jr. of Shinnecock; godmother, Charlotte “Chubby” Terry; a special friend, Maria Fulford of Georgia; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett funeral Home in Southampton. Burial was at Shinnecock Cemetery on October 19.
