George Martin ‘Marty’ Robinson Of Southampton Dies November 15

George Martin “Marty” Robinson of Southampton died at home on November 15, 2016, after a long illness. He was 81.

Mr. Robinson was born August 22, 1935, at Southampton Hospital to James and Kathleen (Aylward) Robinson. He graduated from Southampton High School in 1953. The Aylward family owned and operated riding academies in Southampton on Majors Path and in New York City, across from Central Park. He was married to Evelyn Bennett for 22 years and had seven children. He married Sandra Alippo on April 12, 1981, recently celebrating 35 years together.

He started in the automotive business working for his father-in-law, Royce Bennett, and spent time learning about Mercedes Benz in Germany early in his career. He took over the family business, Bennett Motors, which became Kar Kare Motors. He worked for a time at Country Imports of Southampton, became a partner in Hampton Auto and then finally opened Star Service on Mariner Drive in Southampton, which he operated until he died.

Mr. Robinson was baptized at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church in Southampton.

He was a member of the North Sea Fire Department for 52 years, joining in 1964. He was second assistant chief from 1967 to 1969 and chief from 1969 to 1971. He was Fireman of the Year in 1979 and 1980. He was elected as a fire commissioner in 1981 and held this position until 1995.

Mr. Robinson was proud to have his sons and grandchildren follow in his footsteps as members of the North Sea Fire Department, and his wife and daughters-in-law have joined the Ladies Auxiliary.

He was an avid boater, spending many hours with family and friends on Peconic Bay aboard the SanMartin, traveling as far as Block Island.

He was known for his love for cats, including “Carol the Cat” and “Larry of Mexico.” He, along with his children, could often be found at Agawam Park feeding the ducks on a Sunday morning.

Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Sandra; and his children, Kevin Robinson and wife Joanne, Debra McKay and husband Bruce, Mike Robinson and partner Audra Wilson, Christopher Robinson and wife Jackie, all of Southampton, Kathleen Fiore and husband Richard and Tina Robinson, all of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Debra Robinson; and stepson, Frank Harrison, all of Southampton. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Chrissanne Hamilton and husband Jim of Southampton; a nephew, Paul Alippo of Florida; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Kathleen Robinson; and a son, Craig Robinson of Southampton.

Memorial donations may be made to the North Sea Fire Department Benevolent Association, 149 Noyac Road, Southampton, NY 11968.

Richard King, chaplain of North Sea Fire Department, officiated at a funeral under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.

Burial followed at Southampton Cemetery.

Michael Martin, 58, of Montclair, New Jersey, was arrested by Southampton Town Police on April 22 at 1:02 a.m. on Old Riverhead Road in Northampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.
