UPDATE: Tuesday, 10:15 a.m.

All lanes on County Road 39 were reopened at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, after an accident involving three vehicles forced Southampton Town Police to shut down the westbound lanes and redirect traffic.

The accident happened at 8:32 a.m. when a vehicle traveling eastbound on County Road 39 turned left onto Sandy Hollow Road, police said. It is not known whether the driver of the vehicle ran a red light or skid due to slick roads.

Town police said there was one minor injury, and the person was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment.

They should put a strip mall with new grocery store right around that spot.

That is such a dopey comment with no relevance. Not a "mall", either, but you knew that.
By Rickenbacker (224), Southampton on Jan 3, 17 12:35 PM
Sure, no traffic issues there.

Without further information, sounds like someone did not wait at the light to make the left onto Sandy Hollow but instead may have been trying to make the left turn onto the Eastbound exit to Sandy Hollow from 39 slightly ahead of the light. This is a bit further East than the proposed off ramp to the Tuckahoe Center. A traffic circle at that point on the road would mitigate many of the current problems and future problems at that intersection. When the county is solvent again...:)

What you speak of is something the Town or County should remedy. These are people trying to avoid waiting at the traffic light and attempting to turn across two lanes of traffic. It is dangerous and I hate when people do this. Something should be built to prevent this, but it won't happen until someone is killed. Everyone wants to be slick and take a shortcut and save three minutes.

I'm referring to people making the left turn east of the traffic light, not west of it.

But its fine for Joe Farrell to build a 19k sf mall at the intersection of Flying Point/27/39?

Please tell me this is joke! That intersection is the absolute worst for traffic!

No. Really. He's kidding right? Isn't that death trap #2?
By foodwhiner (104), Southampton on Jan 6, 17 10:33 AM
Wish I was, Toes. The "Sunnation" building has a sign announcing it. Not sure if it's visible in the snow, but past the Flying Point office building entrance, across from the fire department antique Barn and training center, you'll see the survey marker. Backs right up to that big house that was just built. It's a mega mall!

The opportunists who moan about the plans for a much needed, minute , retail concern after every accident are actually making a case to approve the plans. People are driving too fast because they had to rush because of how far away the supermarkets are.

Hi Rickenbacker , are you Paul by chance, the mayor?
By dave h (164), calverton on Jan 3, 17 11:07 PM
Build more of everything closer so no one has to drive as far is pure logical fallacy. .. in that sense rickenback and the stakeholders would just let fresh direct do the deliveries and people will be selling their cars
..and you cant say that you appreciate driving becsuse you've convinced us what an inconvenience it is for you
