The Southampton Youth Bureau is accepting applications for its 15th annual Battle of the Bands, coming up Friday, June 9, at Ponquogue Beach in Hampton Bays.

Qualifying bands must have at least one high school student who resides in Southampton Town, and a band must consist of a minimum of three musicians.

The first-, second- and third-place bands will receive cash prizes and plaques. And, depending on how many acts are scheduled, the top band may be invited back to the stage to play an encore. And participating bands may be invited to perform on another date as well.

“Every year, we like to invite all the bands from the Battle of the Bands competition and the Hamptons Got Talent competition to perform at our summer concert,” Southampton Youth Bureau neighborhood aide Peter Strecker said. That concert will be held Friday, July 21, at the new Good Ground Park in Hampton Bays.

Mr. Strecker emphasized that this is the 15th annual Battle—a milestone for the Youth Bureau.

“I was personally involved with this event when I was in high school and now I’m planning it,” he said. “It definitely feels rewarding to be a part of it.”

The deadline for Battle of the Bands applications and demo music is Friday, May 12, at 4 p.m. Materials must be sent or dropped off to Southampton Town Hall, 116 Hampton Road, Southampton. Alternatively, materials can be electronically submitted by emailing southamptonyouthbureau@gmail.com.
