Morgia “Mickey” Bassett Dunham (Hopping) Nardy of Port St. Lucie, Florida, formerly of Bridgehampton, died on April 25, 2017, after a brief illness. She was 81.
Mrs. Nardy was born in Mineola on August 15, 1935, to Robert H. and Morgia (Bassett) Dunham. She was raised in Williston Park and spent summers in Sagaponack. A graduate of St. Mary’s High School in New York and Colby Sawyer Junior College in New Hampshire, after graduation she worked in New York City as a secretary for a plastic surgeon. In 1957, she married John Norris Hopping Jr. of Bridgehampton. They were married until his death in April 1973. In 1977, she married Robert V. Nardy Sr. of Southampton. The couple divided their time between Sagaponack; Zihuatenjo, Mexico; Bridgehampton; and Florida. They were married until Mr. Nardy’s death in 1999.
Mrs. Nardy was an avid golfer and was a member of Southampton Golf Club. She served for many years on the Southampton Town Zoning Board of Appeals and on the board of the Vista Del Lago condominium association in Stuart, Florida. Additionally, she worked as the church secretary for the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the congregation. Always interested in local history and genealogy, she was at one time an active member of the Bridgehampton Historical Society. She also enjoyed playing bridge. Survivors said she was an energetic, positive, generous person, who had a wonderful and sharp-witted sense of humor.
Mrs. Nardy is survived by her children, John Norris Hopping III and wife Donna of Bridgehampton, Peter S. Hopping and wife Erin of South Carolina, Elisabeth H. Kfoury and husband Robert of Massachusetts; and five grandchildren. She is also survived by her step-children, Robert V. Nardy Jr. and wife Christine of Southampton, Barbara N. Graczyk and husband Leonard of Syosset, Steven P. Nardy of Florida and Lisa N. Oliphant and husband Anthony of Florida; and many nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by a sister, Virginia D. Larouere; and a brother, Richard C. Dunham.
A visitation and a memorial service will be held at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton on Saturday, June 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. Interment will be private.
