Several East End cyclists, including The Press' own Kim Covell, along with Mitti Ellams and Susie Wunsch, completed a 105-mile bike ride as part of a Bike To The Beach event on Friday. They rode on a team raising money for the locally based Flying Point Foundation for Autism. Other local participants included Julie Cummings-Bosch, Erica Remkus, A.J. Hackert and Jean Goldman, and riding the metric century, Sherri Halucha and Katy Persky. Bike To The Beach is a non-profit cycling organization that promotes cycling for fun and fitness while seeking to raise money and awareness for autism through charity bike rides from urban areas to nearby beaches. Friday's ride began around 5 a.m. at Battery Park City in Manhattan and bikers started to reach the finish line at Dockers Waterside on Dune Road in East Quogue around noon, with the final cyclists coming in around 5 p.m. The event greatly exceeded its fundraising goal of $200,000, topping out at $279,760.64. All proceeds go to organizations serving the autism community.
