East Quogue Man Charged With Growing Pot In His Backyard

Oct 11, 2017 9:28 AM

An East Quogue man was arrested on Sunday, October 8, after Southampton Town Police discovered he was growing marijuana in his backyard, according to authorities.

Police said that after receiving complaints of a possible marijuana growing operation at the home, officers went to the house at 5:20 p.m. on Sunday and spoke with the resident, 50-year-old Robert Kuroski.

Mr. Kuroski consented to a search of the property, which ultimately led to the discovery of a “large amount” of marijuana plants growing near the rear of the property behind a garage and a “large amount” of marijuana hanging inside a cargo shed near the garage, according to a police statement. Police also said they found glass and plastic containers with marijuana inside the garage. Police did not specify how much marijuana Mr. Kuroski had, nor did police say how many plants were seized in the raid.

He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, for having more than 16 ounces of marijuana, and with unlawfully growing cannabis, a misdemeanor. He was taken to Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays where he was processed and held overnight for arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court. He was released after posting $1,000 bail and is expected back in court at a later date.
