Charlie R. Brown of Southampton, better known as “Buddy” and a deacon at Community Baptist Church, died on November 30, 2017.
Born on March 12, 1938, to the late Redmon and Mary Cindy Brown in Aurora, North Carolina, he attended S.W. Snowden High School in Aurora, North Carolina. He moved to Riverhead in 1957 and worked at Hills Warehouse. He retired as a supervisor from Riverhead Town Buildings and Grounds after 27 years of service. He was ordained a deacon by the Reverend Raymond Lee on April 28, 1996. He later became the chairman of the Deacon Board at Community Baptist Church. He also served as the chairman of the Trustee Board, and in the male choir, the Men’s Ministry and the Pastor’s Aid Committee.
Mr. Brown was the Past Master of the Tyre Lodge 91 in Riverhead. Survivors said he loved his children, fishing and gardening. He also raised many animals.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Darlene Allen and Kerry Harmon (Claude); a sister, Shirley Brown; and a brother, Preston Seth Brown. He is survived by his wife, Cassandra Brown; sons, McKinley Ross (Marilyn), Charles Randall (Bernadine) ; daughters, Charlene Brown-Pope (Dennis), Sheryl Tucker (Kyle), Angie Booker (Mark), Karen Ham; sisters, Emma Mae Jennings, Marie Thomas (Jimmy), Rachel Freeman (George), Minerva Mitchner; 11 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
