Allan W. Finger died at his home in Southampton, with his family by his side, on January 1, 2018. He was 88.
The son of Allan and Harriet Finger, he was born in Farmingdale, the oldest son of eight children. He graduated from Brockport State Teachers College with a degree in physical education, and played football and golf. Upon graduation, he became a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corp and coached football at Camp Lejune and Quantico. He followed his parents “out east” when they retired to Rampasture Road in Hampton Bays.
Mr. Finger earned a master’s degree in education from St. Lawerence University. He was the athletic director at Southampton High School and later at Southampton College, establishing winning traditions at both institutions. He loved coaching and teaching young adults. Upon retiring from the college, he was a realtor for the Morley Agency in Southampton.
An avid golfer and fisherman, he was a founding member of Southampton Golf Club. He effortlessly balanced work and family life.
He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, “Mimi” Finger; a son, Terry (Lori) Finger; and daughters, Jayne Clare and Judith (Steve) Rewinski; and grandchildren, Katie (Micky) Girardi, Matthew Rewinski, Mark (Lindsay) Finger, Taylor, Teague, and Tess Florio; and great-grandchildren, Karena and Michael Girardi.
He is also survived by his brothers, Walter and Charlie; and sisters Lily, Florence, and Barbara. He was predeceased by his sisters Harriet and Nancy.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
