Barbara Jagger Beran died on February 25, 2018, three weeks shy of her 92nd birthday.
Born in Southampton in 1926 to Cyrus W. Jagger and Margaret Edwards Jagger, both natives of Southampton, she grew up in Richmond Hill, New York, along with her older brother, James Madison Jagger, and spent many summers on Island Creek, in what would later become the family home. In 1948 she married Joseph C. Beran, who predeceased her. They raised their family in Northern New Jersey but when it was time to retire, she and her husband returned to Southampton and the shores of Island Creek.
Mrs. Beran was a self-taught gourmet cook and inspired her four children to be passionate and skilled cooks and bakers in their own right. She had a flair for entertaining and enjoyed planning gatherings and feeding people well. In 1968, she surprised many by getting her motorcycle license and she and her husband rode side by side for more than 25 years, traveling the U.S. and Europe on their bikes.
Survivors said she was a loving and proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by a son, Glenn and wife Susan; three daughters, Barby Muller and husband Bill, Donna and Jill; four granddaughters, Rebecca and husband Boone, Maggie, Molly and Gillian; and two great-grand children, Walter Joseph and Wilhelmina Carmen, along with many family members in the area.
A graveside service will take place on Sunday, May 13, at 1 p.m. at Southampton Cemetery. Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton is handling arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the Michael Friedman Legacy Fund.
