Kim Marie Wines of Southampton died on August 18, 2018, of breast cancer. Diagnosed 17 years ago, she was 56.
Born on September 20, 1961, to Gary and Helene Pirozzi of Oakdale, she frequently visited Southampton during the summer while growing up, staying in a family cottage in North Sea. She attended school in Connetquot and then went to Suffolk Community College, earning an associate’s degree.
She married Robert Passavia in 1986 and they had three children, Justin Passavia of Brooklyn, Brittany Passavia of Southampton and Samuel Passavia of Southampton. The couple divorced in 1999.
She met Roy “Buddy” Wines of Southampton in 1999 and they married on September 9, 2001; her husband survives her.
Ms. Wines’s passion was horses. She spent as much time as possible with her horse, noting that it was like therapy, taking her mind off her daily struggles with her illness. She got to live one of her longtime dreams this past winter, which was to live in Wellington, Florida, a well known equestrian area from January through the end of March. She brought her horse down with her and rode six days a week for the three months.
In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her parents, Gary and Helene. She is also survived by two sisters, Luann Regensburg and Lori McGregor.
Visitation was at O’Connell Rothwell Funeral Home in Southampton, and a funeral Mass took place at the Basilica of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Women’s Cancer Coalition of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
