William Isaac LaFon III of Tustin, California, son of William I. LaFon II and Elinor E. LaFon, died on January 3, 2019, of cardiopulmonary arrest. He was 94 and had prostate cancer.
Mr. LaFon was born in Southampton on November 30, 1924. He graduated from Southampton High School in 1943, and went directly into the U.S. Army to serve in World War II. He was a Bronze Star recipient for his meritorious service in the Philippines, having fought in three major battles in the Pacific, from New Guinea to Japan.
After the death of his father, notable Southampton architect William I. LaFon II, in 1953, he moved to Southern California where he met the woman who would become his wife of 43 years, Pauline, formerly of Pennsylvania. He worked 26 years as a field technician for Southern California Edison Company. He then started his own very successful full-time piano tuning business. He and his wife enjoyed much overseas travel with Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Santa Ana, California, where he was a member, and where he played piano weekly in his latter years until his death, for the PrimeTimers ministry.
Mr. LaFon is survived by his sister-in-law, Rosemary LaFon; his nephews, David Shircore, Merrick and Mason LaFon; and nieces, Debra Falco, Nancy Fenstermacher, Dione LaFon, and Wendy Macadam. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline Jaroschak LaFon; his mother, Elinor E. LaFon; his father, William I. LaFon II; his younger siblings, E. Elise Shircore, and Robert D. LaFon.
Funeral services were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home. A private graveside service took place at Southampton Cemetery on January 10; the Reverend Cary of the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton officiated.
