Feb 12, 2019 1:35 PM

Southampton Town Police responded to an overturned pickup truck at the intersection of County Road 39 and Inlet Road East on Monday afternoon.

Eastbound traffic on CR 39 was closed following the accident as the road was cleared.

At approximately 2 p.m., Christopher Nevins, 35, of Middle Island lost control of his Ford F-350 and struck a tree, causing the truck to overturn. As of 2:30 p.m., the truck was blocking eastbound traffic on County Road 39 near the former Lobster Grille Inn, according to Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph. The road reopened at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday.

Mr. Nevins was reported to have minor injuries and was charged with circumventing an interlock device, a misdemeanor, and driving with a suspended license, a violation, according to Lt. Ralph.

He was transported to police headquarters in Hampton Bays for processing and is due back in Southampton Town Justice Court at an undisclosed later date.
