Longtime Southampton resident William Moore Peterson of Providence, Rhode Island, died on August 13. He also had a home on Martha’s Vineyard.
Mr. Peterson was a graduate of Brown University, Oxford University (Wadham) and University of Bristol (England). He was professor emeritus of English at Southampton College, Long Island University, and a mentor to many master’s of fine art students, as well as a former dramaturge for the Peccadillo Theater in New York. He was a lifelong supporter of the theater and arts communities and a longtime member and past president of the Lagoon Pond Association of Martha’s Vineyard. Predeceased by his wife, Mary Lance Peterson, in June, he is survived by two sons, Thomas Peterson and wife Dorothy, and James Peterson and wife Sharon Reif; and a granddaughter, Catherine Peterson.
A memorial service will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Providence on November 1 at 11 a.m.
