Joseph M. Gosiewski Of Southampton Dies December 8

Joseph M. Gosiewski died December 8 at his home in Southampton. He was 88.

A native of Southampton, he was known throughout the East End as “Little Joe from Tuckahoe.” Mr. Gosiewski graduated from Tuckahoe School and Southampton High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Seabees and saw action in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean War.

In 1952 he married Anita Macomber of Greenport. He founded Suburban Auto Service in 1956. An active member of the community, he served as president of the Southampton Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post, Polish Hall, Benevolent and Protected Order of Elks and a founder/director of the Southampton Golf Club.

Mr. Gosiewski is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anita; and his sons, Joseph Jr. and wife Nancy, David and wife Cher, and Robert; and a daughter, Anita Prudenti and husband John, as well as 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Sophie Struniewski and Jennie Croke.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 11, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Poland Roman Catholic Church in Southampton. A private interment will be held at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton.
