Thomas J. Souhrada died at his home in Southampton on December 21, surrounded by his family. He was 79.
Mr. Souhrada served in the Bayshore Fire Department for many years. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served four years as a medic. He was the owner of Southampton 7-Eleven for 44 years and built it to the success it is today. He was a member of the Southampton Golf club. He was a recovering alcoholic for 31 years, survivors said.
Mr. Souhrada is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters and a son from his first marriage, Sandy D’Amato, Susan Moore and Thomas Souhrada; and three sons from his second marriage, William Souhrada, Michael Souhrada and Christopher Souhrada; and two stepdaughters, Lorraine D’Felice and Donna Brown. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Costello and Mary Lou Locke; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Souhrada.
Visitation was at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton on Monday. A funeral Mass took place on Tuesday at the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton. Burial followed with military honors at Calverton National Cemetery.
