Nestled just outside the village center in Sag Harbor, the building that has housed Canio’s Books for 35 years is on the market for $2.9 million.
A converted residence, the white building with Canio’s prominent blue doors sits on a .35 acre lot at 290 Main Street. At approximately 4,500 square feet in total, it includes 886 square feet of storefront retail space, three apartments, a pool, a 1,000-square-foot, two-story poolhouse and seven off-street parking spaces. The building, which is listed with Douglas Elliman, is owned by 290 Main LLC, “in care of” Martha Siegler, according to Southampton Town records.
Canio’s Books was founded in 1980 by Canio Pavone. Maryann Calendrille and Kathryn Szoka took over in 1999 and have been running the bookshop ever since. This year, they are celebrating the store’s 35th anniversary.
