Richard C. Mulligan

Richard Carl Mulligan of Guilford, New York, and formerly of Southampton died peacefully on Saturday, August 13, at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. He was 57.

Mr. Mulligan was born in Southampton on May 29, 1954, the son of William and Emma (nèe Hamilton) Mulligan. In his senior year of high school, while studying mechanics at the Board of Cooperative Educational Services, he met his high school sweetheart, Barbara Daugherty. They were married on June 2, 1973, in Westhampton Beach, and shared 38 years together. Mr. Mulligan was a 24-year member of the Bridgehampton Fire Department, serving as chief from 1993 until 1995.

The couple moved to Guilford and Mr. Mulligan began working for Mirabito Fuel Group as a propane service manager and later in customer service. He worked for the company for 13 years and really enjoyed his job, according to survivors.

He also loved all things John Deere; it was his greatest love next to his wife Barbara. He owned a 1946 antique tractor that he restored and took to shows. He also enjoyed racing with his father-in-law, often lending a hand as a mechanic.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father-in-law, Alvin Daugherty of Guilford; his sister-in-law, Bonita Norris and her husband Gary of East Yaphank; and many friends.

The family received friends on Tuesday, August 16, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel in Sidney. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 17 at the funeral chapel. Interment was private at the Gospel Hill Cemetery in Guilford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.

Arrangements were under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, New York.
