Friday night’s showdown between the East Hampton and Bayport/Blue Point boys basketball teams was a battle of two squads fighting for their playoff lives—and in the end, it seemed like the Phantoms were
simply the more desperate of the two.
Bayport outscored East Hampton, 21-1, in the third quarter to turn a 29-22 halftime deficit into an eventual 60-35 blowout win on East Hampton’s home court. Bonackers head coach Bill McKee was at a loss to describe his team’s ineptitude in the second half. He said the Phantoms didn’t change their approach or use a different style of defense to stymie his team, but rather was simply the more aggressive squad.
