A groundbreaking ceremony for affordable senior citizens apartments at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church drew about 100 parishioners, clergy members, elected officials and self-described bureaucrats to Amagansett on Tuesday.
“It is an amazing day,” the Reverend Dr. Katrina D. Foster was heard to say to her bishop, Robert Rimbo, on their way to pose for photographs.
Inside the church, sunlight steeped extra color into bands of stained glass as Gerry Mooney, the master of ceremonies, gave the first of many speeches and thanks. Klyph Black strummed an acoustic guitar.

what irresponsibility that our town board shicrks its responsibility to do what this group has done: provide affordable housing facilitated by Federal & State funds. The other 3 complexes this wonderful group has built & manage provides over 150 housing units for EH residents. The town could also provide such a complex as this not-for-profit has done, but it requires no little effort to submit plans & financing ...more that took this wonderful group over two years an 150 housing units many people endless man-hours to see this though.
the people who howl the loudest about overcrowding (read Latino) are the very same people who oppose work force housing that would relieve overcrowding. the EH board is so scared of these screamers they have abdicated their responsibility to provide affordable housing to relieve the overcrowding. It is telling that the same screamers had nothing to screech about this coming afford housing complex, because they can't intimidate them as they do our brave town board. this non-profit group stood up to them as they have to other NIMBYs. God bless Marian Zucker!
