Groundbreaking Ceremony Draws A Crowd To Amagansett Church

A groundbreaking ceremony for affordable senior citizens apartments at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church drew about 100 parishioners, clergy members, elected officials and self-described bureaucrats to Amagansett on Tuesday.

“It is an amazing day,” the Reverend Dr. Katrina D. Foster was heard to say to her bishop, Robert Rimbo, on their way to pose for photographs.

Inside the church, sunlight steeped extra color into bands of stained glass as Gerry Mooney, the master of ceremonies, gave the first of many speeches and thanks. Klyph Black strummed an acoustic guitar.

Outside, a crew of workers aligned steel rods in a rectangular pit for the foundation for one of four buildings that will provide 40 apartments on five acres the church sold at a discount to a partnership that is developing the project with a $4.9... more

congrats to Rev Shock, the Bishop, Jerry , Cathy Burns, et al who have seen this through.
what irresponsibility that our town board shicrks its responsibility to do what this group has done: provide affordable housing facilitated by Federal & State funds. The other 3 complexes this wonderful group has built & manage provides over 150 housing units for EH residents. The town could also provide such a complex as this not-for-profit has done, but it requires no little effort to submit plans & financing ...more

Town govt should not be in the real estate business..take note..Whalebone Woods..Oh..You live in Sag Harbor Mo..maybe you have some good spots over there you could have a work force labor housing subdivision..EH has tried..Lets see Sag HArbor and Southampton step up.
