Ben DiMonte died at his Hampton Bays home on September 28, after a long illness. He was 79.
An accomplished artisan in woodworking and stained glass, he created many pieces that he donated to charitable causes. He volunteered his time to the food pantry at the Church of St. Rosalie and to the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons.
He was raised in Astoria, Queens, where he met and married Marie. After a career in New York City, the couple settled in Hampton Bays, where they lived for the last 25 years. Married for 55 years, they enjoyed traveling and working in their garden together. Survivors said he will be remembered for his creativity, generosity and warm smile.
Visitation will be held at R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Friday, October 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held on October 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays.
