I hope everyone had a great holiday and a safe and happy New Year. I had a great time with my family and friends and wish the best for you in 2012.

This year a couple of things were special; my sister cooked Christmas dinner for our family and my brother was home, it was a great Christmas. Every year things are a little different for Christmas as I’ve gotten older, but being with my brother and sister and Mom and Dad is the best.

I have had three games since I last updated you. First, we battled Pierson in their gym, which was a great game. It was very close until the last minute and was a great game to play in because it was very physical and fast-paced, which I like.

Coming out with the win made it even sweeter and makes us want to keep pushing for more. In our annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament we played Southold and Eastport South Manor. Shout-out to Kendall Madison Playaz brother Winston Wilcenski who is a great shooter and player who led his team in both games in scoring. In our first game, we ended up beating Southold and I had 21 points and 12 rebounds.

It was great to win and pushed us into the championship game against ESM who we held to only 38 points. That was a great job for the Baymen on defense but we couldn’t get our offense going and ended up losing the game. I struggled to score and just couldn’t find my rhythm. Harry Fotopoulos and I took home tournament team honors for the Baymen.

The whole point of the tournament was to fight cancer and raise money for research and we ended up raising around $8,000! Thanks to the whole community and especially the sponsors and HB Booster Club who helped out a lot.

Our next mission is to beat Mercy at home on January 3. Shout-out to KMP brother Nykel Reese who I will be guarding in the game. He is a very good player and has many weapons which I hope to stop. It is our second league game and I feel if we all come together as a team we can beat anyone in our league, we just need to hustle more than our opponent. Our league is very competitive this year and no win is going to come easy. I am psyched to do my best and hopefully lead my team to victory.

Please come support and follow the Baymen throughout the year. Everyone’s cheering counts!

Thanks again. Luke Mercurio
