UPDATE: No Arrests Yet In Reported Hampton Bays Kidnap Attempt

Mar 7, 2012 9:49 AM

Southampton Town Police said early this week that no arrests have been made in connection with a report of an attempted kidnapping in Hampton Bays Friday night.

A Hampton Bays woman said she successfully fought off a man who was trying to abduct her, officers said.

The woman said that as she arrived at her home on Bay Avenue East at 9:48 p.m., a man she did not know grabbed her from behind, put his hand over her mouth and threatened her in Spanish, according to police. He attempted to force the woman back into her car, but she was able to get away after a brief struggle, and the man ran off.

According to an incident report filed at 10:45 p.m. that night, the woman was walking toward her home from her driveway, when the unknown man tried to pull her away from her property. The report states that during the struggle, they fell to the ground, she was able to get free and the suspect left through a
neighbor’s property to the west. The report says the man spoke with a Salvadoran accent and told the woman, “Stop or I’ll kill you.”

Town Police officers and detectives joined a New York State Police K-9 unit in a search of the area, but the man was not found.

He was described as being approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, skinny, and wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gloves.

The Southampton Town Police Detectives Division has asked anyone with information to call 702-2230.
