Edward Thomas Conklin died at his home in Hampton Bays on October 9. He was 91.
Born August 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Edward Francis and Mary Conklin. He graduated from Erasmus High School in Brooklyn and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served on the destroyer escort ship, the USS Harmon. He fought in the battle at Iwo Jima and other active battles.
When he returned to the U.S., he married the former Jean Lane on June 23, 1956. They had a son, Kevin Sean.
Mr. Conklin’s career spanned Broadway theater and the golden age of television. He worked on legendary Broadway productions including, “My Fair Lady” and “Funny Girl,” in which 18-year-old Barbra Streisand made her stage debut. In television, he worked on “Your Show of Shows,” “Late Night with David Letterman,” and “Saturday Night Live.”
Survivors said he had a keen sense of humor and a passion for jazz. He was an avid reader and a seasoned practical joker, who loved to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife and son.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Follet and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach.
