Susan Stuart Moorhus of Hampton Bays, formerly of Center Moriches, died on February 3 of complications from cancer. She was 54 and known to many as “Quogue’s Morning Sunshine.”
Ms. Moorhus was born in North Shore Hospital in Manhasset on April 24, 1959. Survivors said she was well known and loved from Westhampton Beach to Quogue, working for Dave’s Bun and Burger, Sandwich Club, Quogue Country Market and at the Quogue Hess Mart.
Quogue columnist Andrew Botsford wrote of Ms. Moorhus in March 2011, “... And there is a wonderful sense of continuity in the presence of the lovely Sue Moorhus, whose smiling face, quick wit and efficient service made her a radiant star at the Quogue Country Market for many years. It’s great to have Sue working in the village again: the new Hess station already feels like home.”
She also enjoyed being with her dogs and cats, survivors said.
Ms. Moorhus was predeceased by her father, Milford Stuart. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Frank Moorhus; her mother, Norma Stuart; three brothers, Robert, John James and Bill; and her best friend, whom she thought of as a sister, Liana Forseth of East Quogue.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Sinnicksons Moriches Funeral Home in Center Moriches. Services were private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
