Thomas Eugene Crowley of Hampton Bays died on February 13. He was 76. Mr. Crowley was born on July 3, 1937, in Queens and grew up in Queens Village. He served proudly in the U.S. Marines before returning to Queens and beginning a career as a printer. In 1962, he married Lydia Berglin and together they raised four children. In 1972 he moved his family to Hampton Bays, his wife’s hometown, where he opened Hampton Bays Printing Company, which he operated for 32 years. Survivors often said that he had printer’s ink in his blood. He also worked for the United States Postal Service for 27 years, primarily in Riverhead, retiring in 2013.
Mr. Crowley was an avid photographer and enjoyed collecting books, music and tools. He loved to garden in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia; a daughter, Karen; two sons, Thomas and wife Julie, and Patrick and wife Leah; a son-in-law, Richard Daley; and 10 grandchildren, Kelly, Anna, Jack, William, Jane, Helen, Joseph, Daniel, Bridget and Lauren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kate.
Funeral services were held at O’Shea’s Funeral Home in Hampton Bays, followed by burial with military honors at Calverton National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance, 18 Ponquoque Avenue, Hampton Bays, NY 11946.
