Joan Patricia Culhane Of Hampton Bays Dies June 18

Joan Patricia Culhane died on June 18, 2017, at her home in Hampton Bays. She was 87.

Born on October 12, 1929, in the Bronx to William and Rose Quinlan, she was an only child who cherished her memories of growing up in her family’s brownstone with her aunts, uncles, and cousins, survivors said.

Mrs. Culhane was proud of her professional years at the New York Telephone & Telegraph Company as a commercial business representative. In addition to raising a family, she volunteered for many organizations, including Girl Scouts and the Southampton Hospital Thrift Shop. Mrs. Culhane was an active member of St. Rosalie’s Catholic Church serving as a eucharistic minister and a regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. She loved to travel around the world, exploring Europe, Africa, China, Russia and the Middle East.

She is survived by four children, Rosemarie King and husband Kelly, Sean Culhane and wife Maureen, Allyson Scognamiglio and husband Joseph, and Mary Joan Culhane; and grandchildren, Patrick, Christa, Marissa, and Lauren Rose Scognamiglio, and Brian and Liam Culhane.

She was married to Robert Culhane for 39 years before his death in 1993. She was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Robert Scognamiglio, at the age of 16.

Visitation was Thursday, June 22, at R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A funeral Mass took place Friday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rosalie’s Catholic Church in Hampton Bays. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
