Eight motel units recently completed at the Hampton Maid in Hampton Bays designed by Stott Architecture have been awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The award bestowed on Monday, July 10, is the second highest rating available for sustainable design.

The units were constructed with the most energy efficient materials possible, which also provide acoustical privacy, strength and durability, according to Stott Architecture, which is based in Southampton. Insulated concrete forms were used for the perimeter walls and structural insulated panels were used for the roof. The floor also contains a system that includes an air-sourced heating system.

The units were added to the family-run hotel that includes 50 existing model units and one of the most popular breakfast restaurants on the East End. Each unit includes high ceilings, one to two large rooms, a kitchenette, south facing decks and fireplaces.

Stott Architecture’s designs were the second phase of the planned additions, the first being a residence and maintenance building a number of years ago. Ten more units are planned for the future.
